Rich Brubaker, at All Road’s Lead to China is promoting interns from CEIBS for consulting and research projects. Actually,… I’m wondering.. why is he not promoting alumni from our shared alma mater Thunderbird? Maybe T-Birds are more expensive? OK. Just joking. Some T-Birds are expensive…I’m relatively cheap.
Companies view interns as a potential recruitment resource. Here in China, I tend to think that interns are viewed as a cheap source of white-collar labor. Unfortunately, interns are often misused in companies; I often see Masters degree candidate interns used to do low-end data-entry jobs.
However I think that the primary value of employing B-School interns comes from getting their fresh ideas. Interns can add value, even in a two-month project time-span. Sometimes just getting an third-party look at a common problem can lead to breakthroughs…and interns from CEIBS are a rather inexpensive, high-quality third-party opinion.
